Troops had been involved in at least 13clashes with rebels, a newspaper said

Nearly 50soldiers have been killed in a week of fighting between government troops andKokang ethnic rebels in Myanmar, state media report.

The Global NewLight of Myanmar newspaper said air strikes had been used in the response tothe flare-up in Shan state, near the Chinese border.
